Yep – it’s that time of the year again for me. Migraine from hell time. Actually it happens more often than once a year, so I guess it’s technically one of those times of year for me.
But I think you get what I’m saying.
Today is the aftermath of a three day migraine. No amount of sleeping (or tylenol) could help me. Don’t suggest other drugs, I’m pregnant. Can’t take them. Not even coffee worked the first couple of days. It’s also very difficult to maintain an appetite whilst rolling around in agony trying to hide from any type of light source.
You can probably imagine that my writing motivation took a severe nose dive over the weekend. You’d be right. Regardless of how much I might want to edit. Editing through a migraine yields one of two results and sometimes a combination of both (and yes, I know this because I’ve tried before):
- The edits are either so bad, that you have to redo them again, thus defeating the process
- The migraine gets worse and worse until you pass out/throw up
So – I only managed to get through 11% this weekend. I’m still holding out hope that I can finish TDP2’s second draft in June, but I’m not going to stress about it, or I’ll just curse myself with more migraines. And people who know me, know that’s how I roll 😉
June goals, while still on track, are probably suffering a slight set back and may not be complete. Silly baby brain.
The migraine from hell started as a niggling headache when I sat down early Saturday to watch Prometheus with hubby.
I should preface this by saying: I avoided any and all articles, trailers or internet hype about it. I ADORE space movies. I’m a sci-fi geek – what can I say. And just like way back when with Event Horizon – I walked into the theatre with NO PRECONCEPTIONS whatsoever.
Wow. I need to see more movies like that. I had NO CLUE it was well… what it was. If you don’t know, I don’t want to spoil it. Suffice it to say, we got to the end and I was like OH! Yeah, clueless me, right?
But damn I loved that movie. Really, truly loved it. Except for the headache part, that was horrible by the time we left and laid me flat until I woke up this morning.
If you take away the migraine, my weekend was great (lol), although I only managed to play about 2.5 hours of GW2 beta through a migraine haze before giving up (and no, not all at once – THAT’S how bad my head was).
How was your weekend? Do you know when no amount of motivation is going to help your brain accomplish what you want, and stop so it doesn’t defeat the purpose? Have you seen any good movies lately?
You have my every sympathy, KT. I’ve suffered terrible migraines for years and years and I can fully understand where you’re coming from. My only cure is to take the pain pills at the first sign of a headache and keep taking them (usually at least 3 doses at prescribed intervals) until it goes away. But if it goes full migraine I can’t stand light, sound and if I try to talk I can’t make sense. Personally, I think they’re hormone related because they started at puberty, got worse/more frequent during pregnancy and are becoming infrequent as I rush headlong towards menopause. Then again, the trigger also seems to be weather. So who knows! All I know is I truly feel your pain. Sometimes literally!
Congrats on the pregnancy, BTW!
My head hurts just reading this post. I give you credit for even thinking about doing edits with a migraine. Hope it’s gone for good. 🙂
I also suffer from migraines. They got worst after my son was born, but then better after each pregnancy. Now (crossing fingers) I rarely get them and they are pretty mild. So my “cure” was to have 4 kids. 🙂 Definitely hormone related. I pray they never come back. Hope yours go away, too.
We had torrential storms this weekend. I know we’ve been operating on drought these last few years, but this last week has met our yearly average in rainfall. I posted a picture of the “fill up” on my FB page. 🙂
And we’re not done. Still have to muddle through Tropical Storm season. And according to the weather report, I see no sun in our two week future.
And because of that, I saw my husband for all of maybe an hour all weekend. The storms had him sleeping through the pain. Here’s hoping I’ll see him sometime soon! 🙂
I know so well what you are going through. I suffer, and I witness the suffering of my husband’s chronic migraines. I cannot imagine having them every day like he does. They are debilitating, to say the least.
*hugs*
Migraines are not our friends and they do a darned good job of making sure we remember that. Always. Sorry you’ve had to endure this latest round. But I’m glad you enjoyed Prometheus. I haven’t seen it but I took my Chipmunk to watch Madagascar 3. She loved it. I was tickled by it as well.
And you’re right. There are some times when it’s a good idea to step back, especially when the only thing to accomplish is making a situation less favorable. Glad you’re making some progress, but enjoy your pregnancy. Really, enjoy it 🙂
So sorry about your migraines. I feel blessed to never have had one. I used to work closely with someone who had them frequently and I always felt so bad for her not only for the pain but for the time that it took out of her life! Glad to hear about Prometheus – I have been debating about going to see that one. But, I, too, am a sci-fi geek! LOL So I’d probably love it. Thanks for the review!
My weekend was amazing and relaxing. *hugs to you* Yeah, no editing with a migraine, that really doesn’t turn out well. <3
Yeah, if my headspace isn't there, I can't write, period. I can do mildly better at editing, because that's a headspace I'm oddly more used to at this point. I've edited more than I've written.
And you so can do it!! *waves pompoms*
Just the idea of a migraine makes my own head hurt. I can’t imagine what it must feel like. But at least you got something done, right? That’s what matters — the fact that you soldiered on. 🙂
As we say here in the deep South, bless your heart! I’ve suffered through a few migraines and totally sympathize. As for the movie, any movie I see at the cinema gives me a headache (though, thankfully, not a migraine). Last movie I went to see, Dark Shadows, was so loud! That’s why we usually wait for the DVD release.
