Yep. If you’ve ever seen me on Twitter, you probably know I have corgis. Love corgis. Adore corgis. Like seriously.
We have two of them. Kira and Kuma. So cute!
Kuma is about to turn 3 on April 16th and Kira turned 5 on January 21st.
I adore my dogs.
If you’ve never had a corgi and are contemplating a puppy (or adopt an adult!), the corgis have the most gorgeous temperament around. Even though they are born with instinctive herding (yes, those stubby little dogs are actually a herding dog), and will probably herd your cats and maybe toddlers, they’re adorable.
Extremely intelligent, it’s easy to teach them how to sit, stay, come here and potty. And the best thing? They learn word recognition very easily. Our know: Water, Food, Chewy (rawhide), outside, bed and they know what don’t bark means. And Kira even obeys it. Kuma just doesn’t generally bark. He smiles. A lot.
And that brings me to my inspiration.
My corgis pick me up no matter what. If I’m down and dejected, sad or crying – they know. They comfort me and make me smile because seriously – if you’ve had a corgi smile at you, you’ll understand that corgi smiles are infectious.
And when they smile at me my mood will clear and I can usually sit down and write. Of course, sometimes they don’t want you to write and would prefer to sit on your lap where the laptop is… and if you don’t let them they pout – but that’s just the price you pay for undying cuteness and inspiration.
Do you have pets? How do they round out your life? Do you ever feel like they make the day better and it easier to tackle hard tasks?
I think animals instinctively know when you are down and out or not feeling well. We’ve proven it time and again with our cats. 🙂 Gotta love the companionship and love they provide.
Yeah, I really think they do. My cat just doesn’t care haha. But my dogs? Love it. I once had the most amazing cat (called him Gambit hehe) and he was so in tune with me 😀 I just adore animals.
My parents had corgis when i was growing up, They always said that corgis have a big dog personality on short legs. I think it’s true. I’ve hardly ever met a neurotic one, and they are certainly cute. I now own basenjis (two for added fun and excitement). They are bark-less but not without a vast vocabulary when they want to be understood. They are a joy and I agree, how can anyone be in a frump when a dog is asking for a walk or some attention? Nice post.
Oh they do! I truly think they believe they’re big dogs. Only one of mine barks and then only to chase a bird or answer the doorbell. She also understands the don’t bark command. So I’m lucky.
And yeah, the dog outlook on the world just begs to make us smile 😀 Thanks for dropping by!
Sweet! The smallest dogs I ever had were Jack Russell terriers – big dogs in little dogs’ bodies. Currently we have one Dalmatian and three working Labradors (and an Ocicat who sometimes thinks he’s a dog) They’re all special and much loved.
Oh they sound amazing 😀 I love big dogs. The corgis were our compromise. I wanted an Alaskan Malamute, my husband wanted a miniature Dachshund. We got corgis hehe.
Your four legged family sounds amazing. I like that your cat thinks he’s a dog. My female corgi sometimes thinks she’s a cat.
You have such sweet dogs! I have five rescued dog – all mixed breed and one shih tzu. I love them all, they give structure to my life along with the 8 rescued cats! thanks for the delightful post!
Oh wow! You’re a rescue machine 😀 I’d love to have a corgi rescue (bad, I know, I have a horrible tendency to find a breed and stick to it). If I ever get land – I’m definitely doing it.
You sound like you love your four legged family 😀 And they love you too!
I made one of my dogs my blog mascot. They usually make my day better, though the barking can make difficult tasks more difficult at times. 🙂
Oh that sounds awesome! Blog mascot! They can make tasks difficult, but overall, I think life is better with them 😀
I don’t have a pet so I can’t speak on that. However, these pictures of your Kira and Kuma are too darling. I can see why that corgi smile lights up your mood.
oh my, they are sooooo cute 🙂
I have a Great Dane and three cats in the house, and they definitely make my life better. I couldn’t image how lonely it’d be working during the day without them.
Are you on fb as well and are friends with Mary Ruther? You look very familiar and Mary has 2 Corgis as well as 2 Rhodesian ridgebacks.
Nope. I only have a couple of friends who have a corgi. But thanks.
Wheee – cute corgis!! Although I’d argue that any doggie smile is infectious. 🙂 I’ve had dogs my entire life (except the four years at college), and I wouldn’t ever live without one. They just make me happy.
I know, right? Dogs just make everything better! They cheer you up, and love you unconditionally. I’m so glad you only had to live the college years without them.
Awww, they are such cuties.
Thank you! I love them very much!
awww, they are cute! That’s one thing I’m definitely looking forward to when we have a yard – getting a dog again. I don’t know that it’ll be a corgi – I’ll find a mutt that needs a home first rather than buy a dog from a breeder or a pet store, but I’ve heard good things about corgis!
Lissa has a corgi. I’m surprised she hasn’t been by here yet!
Dogs are awesome. I can’t wait until you get your house. I wish you all the luck – and a dog!
